Autumn in New England

Pictures from over the years of Barberry Hill Farm support the BBC's premise that New England in Autumn is one of Earth's Greatest Spectacles

“[One of] three of the most seasonally changeable landscapes on earth...,  New England is the stage for the most incredible colour change... when the vivid greens of summer give way to the golds and reds of autumn.”

Plum Jam for This Season's Final CSA Pickup

A Serving Suggestion
What happens when you combine plums with bay leaves, coriander, cider vinegar, sugar, orange zest, salt, and ancho chiles?  If you ask our resident intern, Hadyn Coxen, the answer is plumb jam with as much savory as sweet.  Barberry Hill Farm's CSA members will get a jar to taste for themselves at this week's pickup, to mark the last of the season.

A variation of this recipe is in the cook book, A Boat, a Whale & a Walrus: Menus and Stories by Renee Erickson.

October

"After the keen still days of September, the October sun filled the world with a mellow warmth…the Maple tree in front of the doorstep burned like a gigantic red torch.  The Oaks along the roadway glowed yellow and bronze.  The fields stretched like a carpet of jewels, emerald and topaz and garnet.  Everywhere she walked the color shouted and sang around her…In October any wonderful thing might be possible."  - Elizabeth George Speare
